Dear Parents,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your family to Mt.Clemens Montessori Academy. An exciting year is planned with many challenging opportunities ahead of us.We would like to share with you some of the things we are going to be doing this school year and ask for your assistance to make everything go smoothly.
Let us begin with our classroom morning routine. Please allow your child to walk into the classroom by themselves: it builds independence and trust in their environment. If your child is crying, let us take your child into the classroom. This establishes self-reliance and trust with their teachers.
Our day begins promptly at 8:00 A.M.. If the door is closed and we are sitting on circle we have started our lessons and new presentations for the day."Circle time" is the most important aspect of your child's day. If you arrive during our "circle time" please take your child to the Office and sign them into school. We will bring your child into class when attendance is sent down and /or after "circle time" is completed. By doing this, we eliminate the interruptions and maintain the concentration of the other children who arrive on time.
The next topic we would like to discuss is snack. A monthly snack calendar will come home with an assigned day for your child to provide snack for the classroom. Please make sure it is a healthy choice and provide a napkin and any utensils needed. Please keep in mind that we will be eating in the classroom. Therefore, healthy snacks that have minimal clean up are best.
In late September, we will begin our individual snack. We have a snack table for four in our room. This allows the children to invite a friend for snack and work on their social skills.
Lunch and recess is from 11:15 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.. The children get 30 minutes for recess and 30 minutes for lunch. Please, do not pack any red juice or juice that can stain the classroom carpet. Ms. Pam is our Teacher Assistant in the classroom, and will be with the children during lunch time.
Once a week the Student Council conducts a bagel fundraiser to support worthy causes in our community. The cost per bagel is $1.00. Bagel day will be on Wednesday.
The children are welcome to celebrate birthdays and half birthdays with a healthy snack. No cupcakes or sugary treats are allowed. Birthdays are in addition to snack and take place in the afternoon with a special song.
It is imperative the students have extra clothing in their lockers. Please bring in a storage bag with a complete change of clothes labeled with your child's name. Accidents may happen, as we do a large amount of water and art projects. We will use smocks for our art projects. This does not mean your child will not manage to get a little messy. Please do not dress your child in anything that may get ruined.
We will also be going out to the playground, weather permitting, on a daily basis. Children must wear rubber sole shoes with closed toes in order to go on any of the climbers. We will not be changing shoes. We have so much to do in the class with activities, specials and academics that it would take away from outside time to have to change everyone's shoes. In addition we also go outside in the winter, as the children love to play in the snow. If your child forget their boots and snow pants, they will be required to stand on the sidewalk.
Tennis shoes are mandatory on our gym days. Children without the proper shoes will not be eligible to participate.
It is imperative that you adhere to the school parking. Arrival and Dismissal Procedures as per the Parent-Student Handbook. Parking is never allowed on the circular driveway or on the grassed areas of the school. No parking is allowed in the Front and Side Parking Lots between the hours of 7:45 A.M.- 8:45 A.M. and 3:00 P.M.- 4:00 P.M.
Further Arrival and Dismissal protocols are as follows:
In order to keep you up to date on what is going on in the classroom, information is posted on our bulletin board outside the classroom and in a binder on the table in front of the office. The folder is marked Kindergarten/First Grade. Please stop and check it out occasionally. We also post special needs that we may have for classroom projects.
